The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) definition of “Cleaner Production” (CP), and the one in most common use is, “cleaner production means the continuous application of an integrated, preventative environmental strategy to processes, products and services to increase eco-efficiency and reduce risks to humans and the environment”.
CP is a method and tool to identify where and why a company is losing their resources in the form of waste and pollution, and how these losses can be minimized.
CP adds value to the EMS; it places emphasis on pollution prevention rather than control, with clear improvement in environmental performance. CP does not deny or impede growth but insists that growth can be ecologically sustainable. It is not limited only to manufacturing industries of a certain type or size, it can be applied towards the provision of services also. CP includes safety and protection of health and emphasizes risk reduction. It improves immediate efficiency as well as long-term efficacy. CP is Win-Win-Win factor; it benefits the environment, communities and businesses.
It is a one type of inspection of one or two day visit in which CP Team observes all the Walkthrough areas such as, Shop floor, Machines and operations, Wastes and emissions, Labor, Storage areas, Utilities etc.. and asks questions related to operating practices, housekeeping, equipment maintenance and control, safety and health, waste generation, handling etc. and
