The 5th Green Industry Conference was organized by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), United Nations Economic & Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and Government of Thailand from 3-5 October, 2018 at Bangkok, Thailand.
The Green Industry Conference is the premier global conference on green industry trends and practices organized every two years by UNIDO and partner organizations.
The conference is aimed at helping governments, industry leaders and related stakeholders design solutions to advance sustainable development through the greening of industry, as indicated by the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 of the 2030 Agenda.
Under this conference the session was organized on “Eco-Industrial Parks for Green Industry”: In developing and transition economies, where most of global industrial production is concentrated, the number of industrial parks being transformed to eco-industrial parks and new ones under development is steadily increasing. This session focuses at the emerging global framework for the development of eco-industrial parks that increase efficiencies and symbioses, while reducing waste and the use of toxic materials in industrial production.
Experts from UNIDO, University of Lausanne, National Cleaner Production Centres, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Germany participated in the session, wherein Dr. Bharat Jain, Member Secretary, GCPC was invited, he delivered a presentation on Eco Industrial Parks development initiatives taken in Gujarat including the Cleaner Production activities carried out by GCPC, under EIP Development Project. He briefed the achievements of Cleaner Production Implementation in Textile, Ceramic, Pulp and Paper, Ceramic, Re-Rolling Sector in Gujarat, Preparation of Best Available Techniques (BAT) Reference Document for Textile Sector in Gujarat, Financial Assistance Schemes for Cleaner Production Implementation in Gujarat under the Gujarat Industrial Policy, 2015 including the Certificate Course on Cleaner Production Assessment under the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) of ENVIS, Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change (MoEF&CC), Government of India and Gujarat State Cleaner Production Award (Large Scale Industries) & (Small Scale Industries) for successful implementation of Cleaner Production and Clean Technologies. He concluded mentioning CP Promotion Activities in Industries and Academic Institutions.
His efforts for promoting Cleaner Production proactively was highly appreciated by the experts and participants.
